The man shot Friday morning by a resident of an apartment on Battle Row has been identified.

Michael Conyers, 40, of Augusta, was shot to death about 2 a.m. by Bobby Lockhart, 26, of the 1900 block of Battle Row, Richmond County sheriff’s Lt. Blaise Dresser said.

Lockhart told police that he looked through his window and saw a man putting on a mask and approaching his apartment with a shotgun. When Conyers forced his way into the apartment, Lockhart started shooting.

Conyers was taken to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Lockhart was questioned and released, Dresser said, but the case is still being investigated.

No longer "news"

Unfortunately, shootings are becoming so frequent that I no longer consider them "news."

What is the Name?

Just what is the name of the building or the campus? Is it Georgia Health Sciences University or is it Medical College of Georgia? The AC reporters can't decide either sinces ever other story involving this place changes!!

Really Sad

Same old story, shootings, murders, break-ins, the list goes on......criminals are taking over our communities and not enough budget money to pay officers to catch them and not enough budget in the school system for them to get a good education to stop them before they get to be criminals.

and station them in "domestic crime zones". Try a little home grown "winning the hearts and minds". Set up a tent prison at Fort Gordon. What is more tolerable? A constant military presence or constant crime?

Really Sad,

What's really sad is not the amount of money spent on K-12 GAPubEd ($16B/year) but the way the money is spent. Too much is eaten up in legal fees, consultants' fees and other administrative expenses while our classroom teachers and our kids are given the cold shoulder.

What's even more sad than educrats' misspending of taxpayer funds appropriated for our kids' educations is the fact that the fathers of so many of our kids don't care enough about their sons and daughters to rear them.

Trying

To figure out what spending on education directly has to do with this article.

Just as important, if not more so, is rearing children right.

Maybe they changed the name of the school but not the hospital? ? ? Or maybe the reporter just refuses to call it anything other than MCG like many of us who think azzeezzee is a meddling idiot. At any rate, the crime thing is getting so bad, everyone needs to remember their sidearm and fire first, ask qustions later.

Who would be dead here if the homeowner had not been armed? Our president is doing his best to ban firearms in this country. Do not be naive enough to believe that if guns are illegal they will disappear. They will not. Guns will always exist. The question you must ask yourself is, which end of the gun do you want to be looking at?

If the facts in this story

If the facts in this story are correct, I say good job Mr. Lockhart and to hell with the thieving thug. Stick him in an unmarked grave with a plywood casket and move on. I don't really care who he was.

And stillamazed....."not enough budget in the school system". Are you kidding me? We are spending tons of money in the school system and having to pay extra to operate Tubman Asylum because they are becoming criminals WHILE WE ARE TRYING TO EDUCATE THEM.

Question - besides the

Question - besides the obvious, why is it necessary to do an autopsy of people who are shot, stabbed, drowned, burned, or strangled? Maybe I don't get it, but when someone dies from one of the above, why slice em up to remove organs?

After the update

No longer amazed's post and 9 others were made before the updae. The initial article stated that a "mystery" man had been shot and killed on Battle Row. No mention that he was up to no good. I am not blaming the reporter. You can't report what you don't know.

No longer, you may want to edit your post to reflect the update.

Based on what is now being reported, a man wearing a mask who breaks into your house at 2 AM deserves to be shot with a shotgun.

Autopsy

I gave you a thumbs up, Sarge. I agree 100% about taxpayers paying for autopsies when there is a coherent story about the cause of death. Total waste of scarce resources.

No Longer Amazed is Right!

Shootings are no longer news to me either. They usually involve druggies who are shooting each other or druggies who are trying to steal to get things to sell to get more drugs. Very rarely do I read the "staff reports" on shootings because I know the storyline before I open the article. The only reason I opened this one was because it mentioned Battle Row. Glad I did. Good guy - 1 Bad - 0. Good score!!

Thanks

My sincere thanks goes out to Bobby Lockhart for saving taxpayers millions of dollars in housing the suspect. I only wish more people like Mr. Lockhart would contribute to the well-being of society in the same way.

^5 bro! Those were my thoughts exactly as I read the story. WHO CARES? Another worthless, violent, dangerous to decent folk criminal taking the eternal celestial dirt nap is not a bad thing.

Again, that is assuming the evidence presented is true.
