A thief took more than $1,000 in copper wiring from the attic of a house, but fell through the ceiling twice getting it, according to a Richmond County Sheriff’s report.

Shaun Leonard, of Hephzibah, went to check on his property in the 2800 block of Lumpkin Road about 4:15 p.m. Monday, only to find a thief had cut the wire on the central air conditioner and pried open the lock on the back sliding glass door.

When Leonard entered thehouse, he found the thief had gone up to the attic and continued to rip up wiring. Damage to the ceiling, however, indicated he fell through into a bathroom and bedroom closet.
