An afternoon car accident Sunday caused power outages on Peach Orchard Road.

Richmond County sheriff’s deputies were called to the wreck at the intersection of Peach Orchard at Balfour Street around 1:45 p.m., dispatch confirmed.

Deputies said 87-year-old Dorothy Dalton had run head-on into a Georgia Power utility pole and snapped it in half, causing several traffic lights to go out along Peach Orchard Road and Bobby Jones Expressway.

Georgia Power was called to the scene. Dalton said she fell asleep at the wheel and was sent to the hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
