An Aiken County deputy was fired Wednesday after being arrested for drunken driving early that morning in Wagener, Aiken County Sheriff’s Capt. Troy Elwell said.

Sheriff’s deputy Scott Baynham, of North Augusta, was pulled over for speeding on Gunter Street about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, said Wagener police Chief Jeff Key. After failing a field sobriety test, Baynham was taken to the Aiken County Detention Center.

Baynham was off-duty and driving his personal vehicle, Key said.

Elwell said Baynham was a six-year veteran of the sheriff’s office with no prior disciplinary issues.

confused

I find it hard to follow some comments by some posters. It does seem that the firing should at least be after the trial.

etlinks the man was drunk. He

etlinks the man was drunk. He deserved to be fired. If a person fails a drug test, their employer will fire them right then and there. Alcohol is a drug too.
