Richmond County deputies say armed robbers took a man's purse as he walked in the 900 block of Ninth Street about 3 a.m. Monday.

The victim, Derrick Lawrence, said he was approached by two black men between 25 and 35 years old, one of whom was armed with a gun. The armed robber told him to get on the ground, and he was struck on the head with the pistol.

“The suspects snatched his purse and stuck their hands in (his) bra, asking ‘Where's the money?’ ” according to a police report.

Lawrence, who was uninjured, described one robber at about 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing 145 pounds, the other as 5 feet 7 inches tall and about 220 pounds. The armed man was carrying a silver-colored, semiautomatic weapon, he said.
