Miss. man killed by drunken driver

One man is dead and a woman is charged with felony driving under the influence after an accident in Aiken County early Saturday, authorities said.

At 4:15 a.m., a 53-year-old man from Vicksburg, Miss., who has not been identified, was standing outside his disabled truck on Interstate 20 between mile markers 11 and 12 when a car traveling west swerved off the road, said South Carolina State Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Brent Kelly.

When the driver of the car, Lacie Doolittle, 21, of Wagener, overcorrected while trying to get back onto the road, she struck the man’s truck, which then struck him.

The man, Doolittle and her 30-year-old passenger were all transported to Medical College of Georgia Hospital, where the man died.

DUI Is Never An Accident

DUI is never an accident and should not be referred to an accident by the media. DUI is a choice with consequences. When I started working EMS in the 1990's a common abbreviation for us on our ambulance run reports was MVA for Motor Vehicle Accident. By 2000 we were being told to change the MVA with an MVC for Motor Vehicle Collision when DUI was suspected. EMS and law enforcement stopped referring to crashes involving drinking years ago and it's time for the media to do the same. DUI is never an accident!!
