Columbia County authorities are looking for Robert Donnell Hobbs, 19, of Old Evans Road in Martinez, in connection with the shooting of a 25-year-old man outside his Evans home Monday night.

Robert Donnell Hobbs, 19, of Old Evans Road in Martinez, is wanted in the shooting of Julian Derrick Bell, 25. A second suspect is still unidentified, Columbia County sheriff’s Capt. Steve Morris said.

Bell told authorities he was playing basketball at Wedgewood Park Apartments on Monday evening when he got into an argument with two men, one later identified as Hobbs. Before it escalated, Bell said he went home about 10:45 p.m., according to a Columbia County Sheriff’s Office incident report.

When Bell parked at his home on Evans to Locks Road, he said Hobbs and another man approached him and fired a handgun into his vehicle, according to the report.

Bell was hit once in the abdomen and twice in the left thigh. He was taken to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital, where he underwent surgery early Tuesday, Morris said.

Morris said Bell is stable and recovering from his injuries.

Anyone with information about Hobbs’ whereabouts is asked to call the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office at (706) 541-2800.

Soapy... What no comments??

Soapy... What no comments?? I guess it's because the location is CC where you actually live...

Jeepster.. I remember in the other article(business moving to River Watch) you said downtown was only safe during the day... Then you brought up the shooting(actually a fight) to back up your comment...

So I'm guessing since there was really a shooting in Evans, and not a fight like downtown... The same responses would be given towards Evans...

Mug Shot

The white painted concrete block wall is the familiar backdrop for Columbia County mug shots. Sad that this 19-year-old man for whom the sheriff is looking has already been a customer in his young life.

This is the proper use of mug shots in the newspaper. It helps the public be on the lookout so they can assist the sheriff.

There are thugs everywhere.

There are thugs everywhere. That being said, I'd still feel much safer in Evans than pretty much anywhere in Richmond County, 24/7.

Happiness is a shooting in Columbia County.

Two things are a constant in your posts.

Any crime in Richmond County will be downplayed and any crime in Columbia County will be celebrated like you've won the lottery.

Wedgewood Park Apartments

Wedgewood Park Apartments needs to be cleaned up. Columbia County needs to continue with the moratorium on building new apt complexes with non property taxpayers living there that milk our school system.

Wedgwood Park, Blue Ridge Apts, Reed Creek... There is a pattern here Countyman. Crime on this scale didn't exist in that part of town before these developments. Wonder where the people living in these developments came from?? I bet you won't admit the answer.

"Howcanwe... Compare the real estate prices in Evans versus West Augusta, Summerville, Forest Hills, Country Club Hills, etc"

You mean communities in Augusta that have essentially blocked the rest of society from living there? CC is now suffering because of this. I know several people in those communities and trust me, they don't feel safe there either.

How did they block off the

Frank Stallone you're quick to defend Columbia County all the time... Over 200k people live in RC, and you talk too quote many people(what 4 or 5)... Did Martinez and Evans block off the rest of CC?? The same people who live in a suburban county sometimes love to blame Richmond County except when it comes to jobs, shopping, entertainment, industry, etc.. The overwhelmingly majority of people living in Wedgewood, Ridge Crossing, Cox Alley, the apt across from Target in Evans, etc didn't come from RC..

How did those communites I mention block off the rest of RC? There's several safe areas in South Augusta, and the city limits of Hephzibah/Blythe may have a violent crime occur once a year..

When do you really hear about shootings in West Augusta, Summerville, Forest Hills, etc. New retail, restaurants, companies, etc don't continue to open in areas were people don't feel safe.. Costco could have opened anywhere, and choose to locate in West Augusta..

People who live in Columbia County actually come to Richmond County to shop at Target.. How many Richmond County tags do you see in Mullings Crossing compared to Augusta Exchange? There's a Target located in Evans, but I guess West Augusta feels very safe..

I'm sure the people who live off Riverwatch Pkwy, Jimmie Dyess, Dennis rd, etc told you they don't feel safe lol..

"I'm better than you!" "No! I'm better than you!"

Columbia County would not exist @ the level it does today, if it were not for RC.

Does everything have to turn into CC vs. RC? Get over it! The kid is from McDuffie County, anyway.
