Billboards seek tips in Augusta teen's slaying

Beginning today three electronic billboards are displaying the photograph of a 16-year-old victim of an unsolved homicide and the type of weapon used to kill him.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office announced the new effort today in hopes of producing more leads in the Jan. 16 death of Kyle Royal, who was found with a gunshot wound to the head at the intersection of Lumpkin Road and Mike Padgett Highway.

Investigators said Royal was traveling in a car that was fired upon as it left the teen night club Magic City at 3200 Mike Padgett Highway. Investigators recovered shell casings from five different caliber weapons and determined that a Hi-Point .45 carbine rifle killed Royal.

The billboards are located at Deans Bridge Road and Bobby Jones Expressway, 15th Street at Broad Street and Peach Orchard Road at Harold Road. Investigators are also offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Royal’s killer.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office at 706-821-1080.
