Three Evans residents have been arrested in connection to an armed robbery in which illegal drugs and cash were taken from a home in the West Lake subdivision.

Columbia County authorities charged Joshua Lynn Westover, 23, of the 800 block of Bridgewater Lane; Woodrow Merril Meadows III, 18, of the 900 block of Deercrest Circle; and Andrew Lee Vowell, 16, of the 1400 block of Aylesbury Drive, with burglary, armed robbery and possession of a firearm during commission of a crime.

Meadows and Vowell showed up at a home in the 3700 block of Pebble Beach Drive on May 19 and asked to see the homeowner’s son, according to a Columbia County sheriff’s incident report.

The 61-year-old man allowed the teens inside, where they walked upstairs to his son’s room.

The man went upstairs to check on the teens and saw one of them putting on a hunter’s mask, while the other was holding a long rifle. The teens ran out of the house and jumped into a car when asked what they were doing. Westover was waiting in the car, according to the report.

The man’s son was asleep during the entire incident.

Sheriff’s Capt. Steve Morris said the incident wasn’t reported until May 25 because the homeowner was uncertain a crime had taken place.

“He, at first, thought that maybe they were there just to play a prank and scare (his son),” Morris said.

In addition to the cash and drugs, an investigation revealed that the gun used in the crime was stolen, Morris said.

“This wasn’t a random armed robbery,” he said.

Morris said the incident remains under investigation, and would not elaborate further.

All three teens are being held without bond at the Columbia County Detention Center.

Good heavenly days

He didn't know these three low-lifers but still let them just mosey on up to his son's room unescorted? What was this dad thinking, even letting them in his house before his son identified them?

He's probably relieved they didn't do something far worse than steal.

Sounds like they went in

Sounds like they went in there looking for the illegal drugs and cash that they stole. Is this man's son a drug dealer????? Why else would illegal drugs be in the house?

And of course the name of the
Unpublished

And of course the name of the alleged owner of the illegal drugs is not mentioned. It just amazes me that it took a week for the owner to determine a crime had been commited. And the son just splept right thru the whole episode of being robbed, obviously if he was the one things were stolen from, then why didn't daddy wake him? And where did the stolen rifle come from? Did the punks have it when they came into the house or was it stolen and in the house before the crooks got there?

Things that make you go hmmmmm...

I wonder if it took so long to report the robbery because daddy was trying to cover his son's rear-end? Maybe get rid of evidence? I just can't believe that he let people in his house and go to his son's room without checking what they were doing or who they were. And, where did the long gun come from? Surely he didn't let them into the house with a long gun and masks. Things that make one wonder...

Wonder how they got through

Wonder how they got through the security gate? Usually they call for visitors unless you are a resident or member of the club.

We'll hear more about this,

We'll hear more about this, you bet.
The man who let them in may want to re-evaluate his "open door" policy.
