Richmond County sheriff’s officials said a son’s assault on his father Monday led to a homicide that afternoon.

Robert Moody has been charged with murder. SPECIAL

Robert Moody has been charged with murder.

Authorities were dispatched to the 1000 block of Red Bird Road around 5:40 p.m. for a domestic dispute. They found the body of 23-year-old Rocky Moody, dead from a gunshot wound.

His father, Robert Moody, 55, was booked into the Richmond County jail on charges of murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Sheriff’s Lt. Blaise Dresser said the father and son had a history of problems. Deputies told investigators they were familiar with the family and had responded to the home in the past when the son assaulted his father.

Police records indicate the last call to the home was in 2009. Before, that there was about one call a year for several years.

Dresser said another incident occurred several hours before the Memorial Day shooting.

Investigators would not disclose how the son assaulted his father. Hours later, police said, the father shot his son in the chest with a rifle.

In the past six years, Rocky Moody had been arrested at least five times, starting with a charge of theft by taking in August 2006.

His arrests included disorderly conduct, driving under the influence, possession of controlled substances and family violence battery.

This is the 13th homicide in Richmond County this year.

My deepest sympathy to the

My deepest sympathy to the father - for more reasons than one. Only God knows what he has been through and what he has endured over the years. May the Lord give him the strength to carry on and may the family be strong to overcome this horrible tragedy.

Rocky

I'm sorry for the family but it sounds like it should have been done a couple of years ago. His Dad needed to protect himself and other family members.
But no matter Richmond County is good for sweeping things like this under the carpet and forgetting about it. The man that murdered my son there in Richmond County only got 7 months and it took almost 3 years to get that sentance.

How did he get a job at the National? Sombody who knew sombody who knew sombody probably. trying to help this young man to get his life straight. believe me I know I have a family member going thru the same thing...If he can just get a job things will be ok...But they are not..So much more to this story....I can only pray that things will be ok..Well they will never be ok. A family torn apart by drugs...Pray for this family. please pray for the father. He has lost a son and now faces jail..He was a wonderful man and father. Just let the truth come out. I am in no way being judgmental about the young man just that there are alot of things we dont know. may he find peace now. My condolences to the family.

A family with a drug addict

A family with a drug addict is never at peace. The addict
Thinks it is all about them and their need. My condolences to Mr. Moody. It would be hard for me to be on a jury and find him guilty of murder after reading about the calls to his home.

Not Sure About This...

Unpublished

Apparently there are a lot of unanswered questions here. However, from what has been reported, I think this should be investigated and ultimately deemed self defense, and protection of other family members. Thoughts and prayers to the remaining family members, including the father.

Augusta National

Where does it say he was employed by the Augusta National and why is this an issue in this case??? Domestic violence is a very sad and hard issue to deal with as no one knows what goes on behind closed doors. Many of these drug offenders know that no matter what happens they will get a slap on the wrist, be
let out again and continue their merry way. It's the parents who have to deal with this issue and in today's liberal thinking you just can't kick them out as you will be the criminal here and not the perp. There is no such thing anymore of it's my house and you will leave,, the laws do not allow for that anymore.. It's amazing what one has to do to rid their housed of the issues at hand. Read the laws, you will be amazed what you find out....

Robert Moody was and is a wonderful father. I spent quite a bit of time sitting on bleachers with him and his wife when our kids played ball together. This is such a tragedy. I had heard that Rocky had issues and I have no doubt Robert did this in self defense for himself or a family member. He does NOT need to be in jail. I know I'm not the law but he will have to live with this the rest of his life and that will be punishment enough. My heart is so heavy with this. My prayers to this family.

Robert

My heart is heavy and I weep for you and your family. I have known you for the past almost 20 yrs and you have always confessed a love for your family. You have always done what you could for your children and there is no doubt Rocky received the best of what you had to offer. I am so sorry it has ended this way. I know you are devastated and wish you could turn back the hands of time. You are an honorable man, a good provider, a hard worker and most loyal civil servant. May God have mercy on you and provide the strength to survive this horrific tragedy. I am so so sorry for your loss.jaj

Very Sad

I know Mr. Robert from work, he is always such a nice pleasant hardworking man and was shocked to hear about this. I had a cousin who was a drug addict and he used to beat my uncle when he could not get money from him for drugs. I don't understand how Mr. Robert could be charged with murder when he seems to have been defending himself and his home. Maybe it will all work out for him, it was probably a desperate act and one I am sure he did not do out of meaness. Prayers go out to this family.

Family tradgedy

My heart goes out for everyone...The history is so important may every detail be told and the right answer be given..Mr Robert will have so much pain with this also and I pray he may go home soon..I really pray for mom - Mrs Moody,,Icant imagine her pain in this also..Please be fair if he has always gave problems to his parents it is so impotant because no parent wants it to end like this and I know this family is so respected and they do love Rocky..Thats is something that never will stop and the pain of this will be there with all their lives...I pray Mr Robert can go home his pain will be enough and probably more than we know or comprehend........Psalm 23

my heart goes out to Robert and family.

Known Robert for many years and know he has always loved his kids. He's a hard worker at work and a good family man. It's difficult yes, to live with an unruly child who has been troubled for a long time. Anyone who has been around or lived with torment from a child can certainly relate to this tragedy after many years of abuse from his own child. The Bible says, "Honor they father and mother." This was certainly not the case here.
