Augusta man robbed, shot at Central Avenue intersection

An Augusta man was shot in the leg while stopped at a red light on Central Avenue on Thursday evening.

According to Richmond County sheriff’s Lt. Blaise Dresser, two Village Deli employees were going home from their shift around 11 p.m. when a masked man with a gun walked to the driver’s window at the intersection of Central Avenue and Troupe Street and told him to “give it up.”

The driver, 39-year-old Chaddrick Seals, told deputies he handed over $50 and a cellphone, but the gunman wanted more. After a struggle, the gunman fired one shot into the vehicle, hitting Seals in the upper left leg.

The passenger, 26-year-old Edward Williams, ran from the vehicle and called the police.

A witness who was on the opposite side of the intersection also notified authorities and corroborated the story.

Authorities found Seals at the Medical College of Georgia Hospital emergency room, where he drove himself after the injury, police said.
