Inmate sues sheriff, district attorney

A state inmate is requesting $1.9 million from Burke County Sheriff Greg Coursey, District Attorney Ashley Wright and attorney Peter Johnson through a federal lawsuit filed Tuesday.

Charles Moxley, who is serving 20 years for child molestation, alleges a conspiracy was hatched between Coursey and Wright to cover up the sheriff’s romantic interest in Moxley’s stepdaughter. The lawsuit further alleges that Johnson--”unknowingly to plaintiff”--was friends with Coursey and joined in the conspiracy to gain a guilty plea and conviction.

Moxley, who has been in prison since March 2011, says in the lawsuit his guilty plea was the result of “acts of threats, intimidation, and terror.” He requests $650,000 from each defendant, plus $1000 for each week of his incarceration.
