Around 2:30 a.m., North Augusta Public Safety was dispatched to the 300 block of East Martintown Road to find George Drumgold, 33, of Augusta, bleeding from a gunshot would to his leg, Lt. Tim Thornton said in an e-mail. Thornton said Drumgold’s wound was not life-threatening.
Drumgold was taken to Medical College of Georgia Hospital for treatment.
Officers also found three other people hiding in a car nearby. Witnesses told police Drumgold was involved in a fight with another man in the courtyard of the apartment complex, Thornton said.
Investigators found a silver handgun near the laundry room of the apartment complex and a bullet lodged in an apartment door in addition to shell casings in the yard.
Police have not identified a suspect.
“Lead detectives are confident that, as they put the pieces of the puzzle together, they will confirm the shooter’s identity,” Thornton said.
