According to a Richmond County Sheriff’s Office incident report, John W. Buchwitz, 20, sold 10.3 grams of powder cocaine for $650 to a police informant Monday in the parking lot of Walmart at 3209 Deans Bridge Road.
The next day, according to the report, an informant set up another meeting with Buchwitz via text message in the same parking lot.
When Buchwitz arrived around 8 p.m., deputies surrounded his Ford Excursion and found about 59.6 grams of cocaine on him. He was arrested and is currently in the Richmond County jail, charged with the sale of cocaine and cocaine trafficking.
Buchwitz is the son of longtime Hephzibah commission chairman Robert Buchwitz, who this year filed a notice of intent to seek the Senate District 23 seat held by Sen. Jesse Stone, R-Waynesboro.
Buchwitz quit the campaign a few weeks ago, however, and is in the process of returning campaign donations, his campaign manager Brent Weir said.
