What's happened to Aiken?

Be careful, Aiken. You're beginning to sound like Augusta.

Augusta has 200k without the cities of Hephzibah and Blythe... Aiken is a town of 30k, and probably close to 50k if SC didn't have strict annexation laws...

SO?

That means what to this article??? By the way Aiken County has 160k population according to the census bureau. The City of Aiken has about 30k. If you are putting facts out there then be specific. I might also add that this area is not in Aiken's CBD. SO, according to your posts, no big deal...

Murder in Aiken

No end here and there -
but what I don't understand is why the "cockroaches" comments gets so many points while others get hardly any. AND it still is a mystery as to who does what when it comes to these so called "points". An explanation would be nice. Sean - would you know, or did I miss something??

@TW: You do realize the points shown by a post are not the points earned by that specific post, but the points earned by that user across the entire site, right? It's not a display of points-per-post you're seeing.

But - bdouglas - who is this "someone" or something behind the screen that plays around with these points? I wonder on what basis these points are alloted??? I am still guessing.

Yet another senseless death

Yet another senseless death in the area. It will not get better only worse. We now live in a country without morals and without any respect for our fellow man. Human life means nothing to these criminals, they will kill you for a dollar.

truly, don't worry about the points. They are a popularity contest at best, and not very meaningful. The more you post, the more points you you may get, so active posters typically will have more. The system can also be "played" with people putting multiple thoughts into multiple posts rather than just one. My count could be zero for all I care, as there is at least one person who thumbs down every post of every conservative who regularly posts. Too easy to manipulate it.

Yes stillamazed,

"Yet another senseless death in the area. It will not get better only worse. We now live in a country without morals and without any respect for our fellow man. Human life means nothing to these criminals, they will kill you for a dollar"

What really bugs me is the majority of these who will kill you for a dollar come from the same culture; one of no father in the home, multiple siblings, poverty, etc. I watch these TV shows like The First 48 and see the mothers just devasted when they get news their son has been killed. My heart aches for them, but the kid was on the streets, running drugs, hanging with criminals, or otherwise being a neer-do-well. Why aren't they teaching their kids to do better? Don't get girls pregnant. Girls, don't GET pregnant. Stay in school. Value education. Etc. Etc. I just don't get it; they just continue to perpetuate the problem generation after generation. The cycle must get broken somehow.

I wonder how many people actually live in the UTOPIA known as Augusta? You know....the city limits? By Joe Isuzu's numbers that would probably make Augusta and Aiken equal....
