Man in hospital after shooting involving Richmond County narcotics officer

  • Follow Crime & courts

One man is in the hospital after a shooting involving a Richmond County Sheriff’s narcotics officer, authorities said.

Around 4 p.m. Saturday, a narcotics squad was out checking a house in the 1100 block of 10th Avenue because they had received information it was being used as a drug house, Richmond County Sheriff Ronnie Strength said.

When officers arrived, one man was leaving and took off when he spotted them. While he was running, he tossed some drugs and pulled out a handgun and pointed it at an officer.

The officer shot the man in the foot. He was taken to the hospital, Strength said.

As is policy with a shooting involving an officer, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called in to investigate.

Strength said officers found the drugs and recovered the man’s gun at the scene. He did not have names of the men involved.

Another drug using gun

Another drug using gun carrying non-productive member of our society placing each of us in harm’s way.

Thank God each deputy will be going home to their friends and family and that they removed this individual from our streets.

Not seeing a problem here.

Not seeing a problem here. The GBI obviously had the right house, and the right people. If you're in the same location with others who are engaged in criminal activity, expect the worst, or remove yourself from the situation entirely. As already stated, it was only his foot - next time it will be his head, whether from John Law or another criminal.

I think we have become too conditioned to taking lives being a good solution to any problem.that's how I feel.
