University Health Federal Credit Union is warning Richmond County residents of a scam involving the institution.

According to a news release, scammers are calling, texting and e-mailing people in the area in an attempt to trick them out of their money.

Although the credit union has been targeted by scams in the past, scam artists have been increasing their efforts in the past few days.

The messages sometimes claim a card has been stolen and the customer needs to verify credit information. Often the messages are sent early in the morning or late in the evening to catch people off guard.

A spokeswoman at the credit union said no one will ever verity account information over the phone, e-mail or through text message.

Other credit unions in the area are also being targeted similarly.
