Burglar vandalizes Augusta home with ketchup

A burglar used ketchup and barbecue sauce to vandalize a house in the 2400 block of Jennings Road in Augusta on Wednesday afternoon, police said.

The front door of the home was kicked in between 1 and 3 p.m. Wednesday, according to a Richmond County Sheriff’s Office incident report.

Several items, including cleaning products, a toothbrush and toothpaste, and a pair of Nike sneakers, were taken. About $270 worth of refrigerated food was destroyed, according to the report. An officer who responded to the scene found ketchup and barbecue sauce squirted all over the floors, walls and cabinets.

The victim, a 26-year-old Augusta man, told the officer he is in an ongoing dispute with a man his girlfriend has a child with. The victim told the officer that he received a call from the father, who admitted he trashed the house and said, “I’m going to kill you.”
