Sheriff's office offers reward for information on shooter in January homicide outside Augusta club

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is offering a $5,000 reward in the unsolved homicide of 16-year-old Kyle Royal.

The teen was killed in the early morning of Jan. 16 after being shot in the head outside Magic City, a club operating illegally at 3200 Mike Padgett Highway.

Deputies responded around 2 a.m. to a car crash at Lumpkin Road and Mike Padgett Highway, where they found Royal inside the vehicle, dead from a gunshot wound.

Investigators believe Royal was shot while the vehicle was leaving the club. The driver then lost control as he attempted to turn onto Lumpkin Road.

Investigators said .32-caliber, .38-caliber, .40-caliber, .45-caliber and 9 mm weapons were fired in a shootout outside the club. An autopsy revealed the fatal shot came from a.45-caliber gun.

The sheriff’s office is asking for assistance in identifying the person who fired the shot that killed Royal.

The case is the county’s only unsolved homicide from this year.
