A 29-year-old Augusta man was arrested after he claimed to be the sheriff’s son while trying to enter a Hephzibah convenience store Tuesday morning.
According to an incident report, Christopher William Baker repeatedly to get inside Kangaroo Express, 4101 Windsor Spring Road, to use the restroom around 2:30 a.m.
An employee told officers Baker said he was the sheriff’s son and that he used to work at the store and could come inside.
The employee flagged down a deputy, who saw Baker acting suspiciously near a trash bin on the side of the building.
Police said Baker tried to flee from the officer several times and was finally caught on Tobacco Road.
Baker was booked into the Richmond County Jail on a charge of obstruction of a law enforcement officer.
