Richmond County deputies were called to a Edgar Street home just after 3 p.m. Tuesday to investigate a home invasion.
The victim, described as being in her 20s, told investigators a young man identified later as Sam Samuel, 16, of Ellis Street, knocked on her door looking for someone called “Ole Boy,” sheriff’s Sgt. Dan Carrier said.
While the woman was speaking with the man, another man, whom police identified as Zachary Albright, 18, of Ridge Road, forced his way in with a gun. Police said Samuel and Albright ransacked the woman’s home and then raped and sodomized her in the presence of her children, who range in age from 18 months to 6 years.
Carrier said investigators learned three other youths were involved and one, Antonio McBride, 16, of Ellis Street, accompanied the two assailants. McBride was charged as an adult with armed robbery.
Sheriff's Lt. Blaise Dresser said investigators worked all night to track down the suspects in the assault. Dresser said the woman's children witnessed "some things at different times," but given their ages it wasn't certain if any were in the room while their mother was being assaulted.
Investigators were able to obtain "great physical evidence" from the scene and incriminating statements from several of the teens, he said.
Samuel and Albright were charged with armed robbery, rape and aggravated sodomy in connection with the assault. Albright was also charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
All the juvenile suspects are being held at the Regional Youth Detention Center. Albright is being held at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center.
