Amy Ann Lucio, left, 28, of Felda, Fla., and Joel Enrique Rosario, 28, of Lehigh Acres, Fla., were arrested early Thursday.

Joel Enrique Rosario, 28, of Lehigh Acres, and Amy Ann Lucio, 28, of Felda, are charged with armed robbery. Rosario also faces a charge of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

A clerk at Pumpkin Center on Appling-Harlem Highway said the couple came into the store about 12:30 a.m. They collected a few items and brought them to the register, according to a Columbia County Sheriff’s Office incident report.

As the clerk rang up the items, he said Rosario pulled out a gun and demanded money from the safe. When the clerk said there was no store safe, Rosario fired at him. More customers came into the store and the couple ran out, sheriff’s Capt. Steve Morris said.

Two witnesses outside the store said they heard popping sounds and saw Rosario and Lucio leave in a dark-colored car headed toward Interstate 20. A deputy located the Geo Prizm on I-20 near Belair Road. They led authorities on a brief chase before they were apprehended in the parking lot of Lowe’s in Evans, Morris said.

Two patrol cars received minor damage, but no one was injured.

Deputies found a 2-year-old child curled up in the back seat. The child was taken to Medical College of Georgia Hospital for evaluation, Morris said. The Department of Family and Children Services was contacted.

Rosario and Lucio are being held in the Columbia County Detention Center without bond.

Pumpkin Center is so far out

Pumpkin Center is so far out in the sticks that they don't even know what a roundabout is! I remember going to Hilton Head 20 or so years ago and making a fool of myself at Sea Pines Circle. I did better at Coligny because I was just making the right turn.

lol sweetson. Haven't you heard; you can take the boy out of the country, but you just can't take the country out of the boy?

LL, Are you kidding? II was In Appling this week and saw no reason for a roundabout. Grovetown could sure use a couple of them or more lanes BTW, great tomato plants up there. Planted early this year.
