A man is in the hospital with two gunshot wounds after a dispute with his landlord over rent money, authorities said.

Weldon Roberts Jr., 65, got into a fight with one of his tenants, John Davis, on the 1700 Block of Hicks Street around noon on Friday, said Richmond County Capt. Scott Gay.

Roberts punched and shot Davis twice, and was arrested at the scene. He is being held on charges of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during a crime.

Davis was transported to Medical College of Georgia Hospital and is in stable condition, Gay said.

I did it for a long time, and

I did it for a long time, and I just got tired of it. True, we aren't NY, but drugs have still made a difference. I had a high rent collection though; here was my policy: I don't chase you for your rent, it's due on the 1st, late on the 2nd, and I'm at the courthouse on the 3rd. It worked a lot better than shooting them.

I always told prospective
Unpublished

I always told prospective tenants that there was a $50 application fee to cover a credit and criminal background check, which I would discount from their THIRD rent payment that was made on time. Good tenants had NO problem handing over the money right away. Some lookers almost RAN the other direction! I will rehab and flip properties now, but will never again be a landlord.

Landlord is a convicted felon.

This is how they do it in the big house when you don't pay back your shaving soap on time.

meanwhile, today's editorial is about protecting our gun rights. Now I know why. I certainly wouldn't rent without having a concealed weapon permit.

Just an educational note:

Just an educational note: There is no such thing as a conceal carry permit in Georgia. It is called a Georgia Weapons License.

A resident of GA may openly carry their firearm or conceal it - one method is not mandated over the other. You also are not required to have a license if you are on your own property, within your own vehicles, or at your place of business. The permit allows you to carry outside of these three locations.

And yes - the more people with a GWL the better.
