Edward Albert Brown III, 19, of the 2200 block of Bridgetown Road in Augusta, is wanted by authorities for questioning.
The incident occurred about 7:30 p.m. at a Petersburg Square apartment.
Justin Anthony Stephens, 19, of Grovetown, and an unidentified accomplice were dressed in black and wearing bandanas over their faces when they knocked on an apartment door and forced their way inside, according to authorities.
The renter’s 15-year-old son shot Stephens twice with a .22-caliber rifle.
Stephens, who was pronounced dead at the scene, died of a gunshot to his back, said Columbia County Coroner Vernon Collins.
The 15-year-old will not be charged because his actions are considered justifiable homicide, according to sheriff’s Capt. Steve Morris.
Stephens’ accomplice ran away.
