A man seconds away from being released from jail was re-arrested after he made threats against an officer.
According to Richmond County sheriff’s Sgt. Dan Carrier, Robert Allen Powell, 50, started arguing with Sgt. Christopher Mitchell during his release from the Richmond County Jail shortly after midnight.
Authorities said Powell was upset because he didn’t have a place to go upon release and was concerned about being on the streets.
Carrier said Powell threatened to beat up and kill the officer and then lunged at him.
Powell was re-arrested for charges of terroristic acts and obstruction of a law enforcement officer.
This morning’s arrest was his third set of charges this month.
Powell was being released this morning after being jailed for violation of a county ordinance of “refusal to leave when directed” on Feb. 19, Carrier said.
On Feb. 5, he was jailed on charges of disorderly conduct.
