A plea bargain has been reached in the case against David Fry, who is accused of trying to bribe two Augusta commissioners in 2009, District Attorney Ashley Wright confirmed Wednesday.
The details have not been made public, but will be discussed at a sentencing hearing March 8 before Superior Court Judge James G. Blanchard.
Fry, who is charged with two counts of bribery, was going to accept a plea agreement last year, but that deal was rejected by Superior Court Judge Carl Brown. Brown recused himself after his daughter, Dacara Brown, became Fry’s attorney this year.
Fry is accused of offering commissioners Alvin Mason and Corey Johnson a 3 percent cut of profits from a management company if they voted in favor of a downtown parking deck for the Trade, Exhibit and Event Center. Fry’s attorneys have argued it was only a proposal, but the District Attorney’s Office says it’s bribery anytime something is offered to commissioners in exchange for votes.
So has there been an admission of guilt by Fry? Could it be this all wasn't just a joke as Jerry Brigham and others said?
I guess there is no chance to see where Grantham and Brigham, as some suspect, fit in to all of this in the very beginning.
Of course this is where I could play Conways song..."It's Only Make Believe".....smile now...
They think you really care but....i know it's only make believe.....
It's a shame this one didn't go to trial. It would have been interesting to see what all came out.
Just because he pled, doesn't mean he can't talk if he wants. Hopefully he'll decide to...
