Richmond County Sheriff’s deputies said they arrested a teenager Tuesday night after he tried to steal a $35 bottle of vodka from a liquor store and led deputies on a 10-minute car chase.
Brandon Hill, 18, took the vodka from Harban’s Wine and Spirits on Boy Scout Road around 9 p.m. but dropped the bottle when a clerk approached him, according to Lt. Robbie Silas.
He took off in his mother’s Dodge caravan and almost ran over a clerk who stepped in front of the vehicle, Silas said.
A deputy nearby spotted the vehicle and pursued Hill for almost 10 minutes. Hill crashed into a tree, which deployed both air bags.
“He took out some mail boxes and hit a tree, but no one was hurt,” Silas said.
Hill was charged with theft by shoplifting, no seat belt, failure to stop at a stop sign, reckless driving, and fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer.
If he did that kind of damage before he got drunk, imagine what he may have done after he drank the vodka. Great job RCSO for being alert.
Great job to the RCSO.
Fleeing the police should be a felony in ALL cases.
Great job RCSO......what a way to ruin your future...over 1 bottle.
