A man was fatally shot around 9 p.m. Sunday in a parking lot at River Glen Apartments at East Boundary and Telfair Street, according to Richmond County sheriff’s Lt. Paul Johnson.

The victim was identified as Truemaine Jones, 27. Richmond County Deputy Coroner Johnny McDonald said it appeared that Jones was shot in the face.

According to a statement released this morning by investigators, deputies responded to the rear parking lot behind the A and B building at 201 East Telfair Street at 9:11 p.m. and found Jones, of the 200 block of Japonica Avenue.

"This investigation is in its early stages and no further information will be released at this time," Lt. Blaise Dresser said in a statement this morning.

It is Richmond County’s seventh murder of 2012.

Is this the seventh murder

Is this the seventh murder for the year? It's only February. This is sad.

Dangerous place with

Dangerous place with dangerous people. Lots of drugs, lots of crime, lots of people who could care less what they do to others. Sad for the good people that live there.

0 for the
Unpublished for the year. We're averaging slightly more than 1/week at the moment and it aint even peak "shootin' season" yet.

Also, this is the second murder in this same apartment complex in the space of three weeks or so. A guy was shot while riding his bike around there in mid January. The Sheriff's Department named a suspect but I don't recall if he's been arrested yet. Then there's the guy who died this morning after being beaten outside the grocery store just up the road on East Boundary.

This whole area is like Mogadishu. Lawless, anarchic and ruled by gang leaders and their heavily armed followers. I think the US should invade East Augusta. I suggest Deke declare martial law with a dusk to dawn curfew on the entire area east of 6th Street.
