Aiken Public Safety Director Charles Barranco has scheduled a news conference at 7 p.m. at police headquarters to discuss the shooting of one of his officers today.

The female officer, whose name has not been released, was taken to Aiken Regional Medical Center after being shot during a call for suspicious activity at Eustis Park in Aiken.

South Carolina Law Enforcement Division identified the suspect as Joshua Tremaine Jones, 26, who was arrested in Batesburg, S.C., within hours of the 7:30 a.m. incident and is now in the Aiken County custody.

Jones has also been identified by Richmond County Sheriff’s Office officials as being the suspect in a homicide in Augusta. That victim, 21-year-old Cayce Vice, lived at The Greens on Washington and was found dead in her apartment from a gunshot wound to the head. She was found about 10:30 a.m. when deputies were asked to check into her whereabouts when she did not show up for work.
