Police: Man who caused Washington Road collision was under influence of prescription drugs

    The driver responsible for an accident that sent him and another driver to the hospital Sunday night will be charged with driving under the influence, police said.

    About 9 p.m., Matthew Cooley, 21, was driving a Chevrolet Silverado west on Washington Road when he drifted across all four lanes and struck 19-year-old Alexandra Mayfield’s Toyota Camry, Richmond County sheriff’s Lt. Robbie Silas said.

    Mayfield had to be extricated from the vehicle, and she and Cooley were sent to Medical College of Georgia Hospital. Neither of their injuries were considered life-threatening.

    Cooley will be charged with failure to maintain lane and driving under the influence of prescription drugs, Silas said.

    Gee, and just think, our taxpayer money is going to stop only welfare people from doing drugs, but it's ok for others to do, legal or illegal drugs and drive.

    Poor Ali is in the hospital

    Poor Ali is in the hospital O.R. right now having her first surgery on her leg. The first of three. Please THINK before you get behind the wheel. And please keep Alexandra and her family in your thoughts and hopes for a quick and easy recovery - at least as must as it can possibly be.

    It seems that his arrest for driving under the influence attest to the fact that it is NOT OK. It's frightening to think there is only 1 sane person left if this is their post.

    No we don't have a major Prescription drug problem, we have a people problem. Most medication state plainly Do not drive or operate heavy machinery while taking medication. It's the self-centered "me" mentality that is the problem, not the drugs.

    This young man should serve

    This young man should serve some real jail time..Caused an accident while under the influence.. Not to mention the harm caused to the other driver.. There is a lack of personal responsibility on the part of this driver and the physician who prescribed the meds.. pain pills would be a guess... agree with GaStang22..
