Rock music returned to Augusta’s airwaves Monday afternoon at 5 p.m., and fans were celebrating on the Facebook page of Beasley Broadcast Group’s 95 Rock, radio station WCHZ-FM.
Talk radio replaced rock back in August on 95.1 FM, with the rock music bumped back on the dial to 93.1 FM, a signal many listeners complained was too weak to pick up in Augusta. Until Monday, listeners were urged to stream the station online at 95rock.com.
No immediate reason was given for the changeover, but Producer Chuck Williams thanked listeners on the Facebook page for their support and patience “as we worked through all of this.”
“Could NOT have done it without all of you,” Williams wrote.
Facebook posts from listeners on WCHZ’s page indicated the station could be heard in Augusta, Edgefield County, S.C., and Waynesboro, Ga., but not Salley.
Does this mean Lex and Terry will resume as well. Was the only good reason to listen to that station
Wonder if the return will include the drive home w/ Jordan? Hate it all you want, it ain't boring while sitting on Bobby Jones waiting for green lights.
glad to have our traditional rock station back on the air, bout dang time. sure do miss lex and terry in tha morning on the drive to work.
Lex & terry will resume as scheduled but no Jordan zah. So glad to have you guys back!!!! PLEASE never leave us again!
Glad to hear Rock is back instead of simulcasting the AM station. I tried to listen to the news talk but found it came in better on the AM side instead of the FM. which was strange. Anyway Augusta needs more music choices. The few they have are not that good. BOB is a rerun of a mp3 playlist that has gotten old. No decent country stations, etc. etc.
Austin is the name of the narrator on the audio book version of the Chronicle.
Not quite on topic here, however, I'd really like to see the ASU radio station start developing itself and become more of a presence. Put it on the list anyway.
I'm still a little confused. Did the Beasley Group boost the signal on 93.1, replace the talk with rock on 95.1, or just make the rock available online?
The company secured the 95.5 signal from another local broadcaster (Rob Hunnicutt, the owner of WKZK), so 95 Rock will be on both (95.5 and 93.1) frequencies, as well as delivered over the internet.
95.1 will remain WGAC-FM.
I, for one, enjoy the talk on 95.1, including Austin's show. I never could listen to AM stations...something about the lo-fi sound bugged me as a musician, so I never could stand to listen to anything but a football game now and then. So I went from no talk radio at all to quite a bit. I wouldn't be mad if they got rid of Rush (will never happen) and that Michael Savage guy. If I wanted to hear people full of themselves and angry all day long, I'd just bring up politics at work. heh
David Parker...the ASU radio station battle has been waged since before I was a student there in the mid-80's. We learned the hard way that the "college station" , WACG, has a permanent trust fund in place AS LONG AS they favor/feature classical music.
@Clemintime...u are correct. It's not a well written enough piece to make that determination.
