Weapons are taken from police vehicle

  • Follow Crime & courts

Among the seven cars broken into within three blocks of one another Friday in North Augusta was an Aiken County Sheriff’s Office Dodge Durango.

About 8 a.m. Saturday, police were looking into break-ins in the 1800 block of Hidden Hills Drive and the 400 block of Shadow Lane, according to a North Augusta Public Safety report.

Missing from the sheriff’s cruiser were an M16 rifle with ammunition, a Glock pistol with ammunition, a tactical vest and a laptop. Officers found a flashlight and two gloves in the street that were taken for fingerprints.

Some of the other cars had broken windows, and some had just been ransacked. A laptop and cellphone were taken from a van.

Just remember folks, two to

Just remember folks, two to the chest and one to the head. Was the gun a true m16? If so a criminal is armed with a fully automatic assault rifle and possibly body armor. The LEO that had the weapons taken from them should be held responsible for losing the weapons. If they are going to store weapons inside the car they should be required to lock them up to a rack or a safe in the vehicle.

Lose your weapon in the

Lose your weapon in the military and you pay for it, then you are court martialed. Whose idea was it to allow M-16s to be left in cars?

Missed the Durango part when

Missed the Durango part when it said police cruiser which is normally a Ford but now the new Dodge Chargers. Sorry. Common sense I am not sure if the officers remove their weapons every night. I never said it was ok. I just made a statement that they are usually in the trunk of the cruiser.
