A Richmond County sheriff's investigator videotapes the scene of a fatal shooting Saturday outside River Glen Apartments off East Boundary in Augusta.

Doniel Hicks, 24, of the 800 block of Spruce Street, was shot in the chest in the 200 block of East Telfair Street, according to Richmond County Deputy Coroner Mark Bowen.

Bowen said Hicks was brought to Medical College of Georgia Hospital and pronounced dead at 1:20 p.m. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday morning.

Investigators taped off sections on both sides of East Telfair Street. On one side was a parking lot with an overturned bicycle and a jacket that Lt. Blaise Dresser said were involved in the case.

He released no other information about the slaying, including whether there is a suspect or motive.

Neighbors said they heard three shots and saw a man crawling in the parking lot.

This was Richmond County’s third homicide of the year.

In 2009, the River Glen complex was the scene of the killing of Jamar White and a shooting. In 2010, there were two more shootings, and in May 2011, it was the site of the unsolved homicide of Angelo Quinn Daggett.

River Glen is privately owned and managed and has long been a challenge for the Augusta Housing Authority. It is a unique complex in Augusta because its federally subsidized Section 8 rents are attached to the complex, leaving the housing authority’s role only to review rental applications for eligibility.

If the good citizens would

If the good citizens would only leave them alone and let them do their thing, this type of living would soon vanish by eradicating itself.

No one of any race will ever

No one of any race will ever be able to live the dream of MLK so long as you are enabled and dependent on the federal government. Housing assistance should be temporary not year after year or a lifetime in many cases. Unemployment should not be lasting over 2 years as it does now. Food Stamps and EBT are a joke and many sell them at 50 cents on the dollar because they have more groceries then they can eat but "Need" cigarettes, beet, liquor, cell phone minutes, etc. And, it isn't a "black thing" because more white people are on these subsidies than blacks.

People need to be held fully accountable for their selves not enabled by the government. Help those that are unable to help their selves such as the extreme elderly and handicapped but everyone else should take care of their self or seek assistance from family, friends or charity not be taken care of by the taxpayers.

Lack of respect for oneself is as bad as lack of respect for others and our country is greatly lacking in both by many at this time. We need 2 parent families, discipline at home and in school and accountability for ones actions. We need a judicial system, starting with the juvenile justice system that does not slap your hand but really makes it clear that you NEVER want to return if given a second chance. We need to end our revolving door justice system and place and keep violent criminals where they belong.

This murderer will be caught by the RCSO, most are. The real question is will he be put to death or at least put behind bars for the rest of his life?

Luckily the video

Luckily the video surveillance cameras in the front office are pointed in that direction and should have caught it on tape.

Oh and the answer to your question at the end.....Neither!!! This bleeding heart justice system rarely gives appropriate punishment. If they did there would not be so many proven and repeat violent criminals walking our streets!!!!!
