Formal murder charges were pressed this week in connection with two 2011 slayings.

A grand jury indicted Mikell LiRian Thomas, 15, of the 2500 block of Rhodes Drive, and Chad Jamal Walker, 21, of the 2100 block of Roosevelt Drive, for both felony and malice murder, along with possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Investigators named them as the suspects in the Oct. 9 homicide of Buchanan Marshal, 29, of Flowery Branch, Ga.

Also this week, Reco Deangelo Hurley was indicted in connection with a Jan. 2, 2011, homicide. The victim of the assault, George Taylor Burnett Jr., died in December from his injuries. Hurley, charged with felony murder, is in the custody of the Georgia Department of Corrections on an unrelated drug charge.
