2 handguns stolen from Augusta home

Two handguns were reported stolen from a home in the 400 block of Ashland Drive.

Doris Davis Hoffman told officers she came home at 8 a.m. Monday and saw the window screen next to her front door had been pried open, according to a Richmond County sheriff’s report.

She told deputies several rooms in her house had been ransacked. Her back bedroom window had also been pried open to gain entry into her locked master bedroom, the report says.

Officers found a knife and screwdriver on the bed. Hoffman said the tools not there when she left at 5 p.m. Sunday. The two guns were a 9 mm Browning Arms and a .38-caliber Colt.
