Two handguns were reported stolen from a home in the 400 block of Ashland Drive.

Doris Davis Hoffman told officers she came home at 8 a.m. Monday and saw the window screen next to her front door had been pried open, according to a Richmond County sheriff’s report.

She told deputies several rooms in her house had been ransacked. Her back bedroom window had also been pried open to gain entry into her locked master bedroom, the report says.

Officers found a knife and screwdriver on the bed. Hoffman said the tools not there when she left at 5 p.m. Sunday. The two guns were a 9 mm Browning Arms and a .38-caliber Colt.

Owning a gun is smart.

Owning a gun is smart. Placing it in a very secure safe when not in use is just as smart.

See how EVIL guns are? They are the cause of all crime! They should be uninvented today and anyone caught with one should be put in prison for life. This will solve ALL of our problems!

I live very close to this location. The 400 block of Ashland Drive is just off Boy Scout Rd., to which it runs parallel, near A. Brian Merry Elementary School. Nice area, nice people. Unfortunately, about a quarter mile down the road is an apartment complex, which is well known to the police. There's also another problem area about a half mile in the opposite direction, around Tutt Middle School.

Once a year or so, there's a problem. About 12-18 months ago, two teeenage punks from said areas staged an armed home invasion, just a few houses down from the scene of this crime.
