A cash register was stolen from an Augusta business Sunday morning, according to a Richmond County Sheriff’s Office report.

John Haywood, the owner of New World Natural Foods, 2825 Washington Road, told deputies that two black men broke into his store by pulling the front door until the lock broke about 5:15 a.m. Once inside, they took a cash register out of the rear checkout area and fled.

Officers watched the security tape and said the men wore hooded sweatshirts and covered their faces with scarves. One man wore a camouflage jacket and khaki pants, the second wore a light-colored jacket and jeans.

The cash register had a reported value of $300. The report did not say whether there was any money in the register when it was stolen.
