Alonzo Keith Coleman Jr., 22, of Shadow Moss Court in Augusta, was charged with possession of a dangerous weapon Friday, Nov. 18, 2011, after being caught with a sawed-off shotgun.

Alonzo Keith Coleman Jr., 22, of Shadow Moss Court, was charged with possession of a dangerous weapon.

Just after midnight, a deputy saw a man, later identified as Coleman, sitting in a Lincoln Town Car in the parking lot of Walmart on Bobby Jones Expressway. He stayed in the car for several minutes, and drove out of the lot as a Columbia County sheriff’s deputy drove past. A check of the car revealed it had no insurance and the registration was suspended.

Deputies stopped Coleman in the parking lot of the nearby Enmark gas station a few minutes later. As two deputies approached the Lincoln, they saw Coleman reach into the back seat, where they saw a sawed-off shotgun in plain view on the floorboard. They ordered Coleman out of the car and arrested him.

When searching the car, deputies found 20 shotgun shells and the sawed-off shotgun with a 16-inch barrel on the backseat floorboard. The safety on the gun was off and a spent shell was in the chamber. They also found 1.7 grams of marijuana in the center console.

Coleman admitted owning the shotgun and said he thought the marijuana was still in his pocket.

Coleman also was charged with driving on suspended license, with no insurance and with a suspended registration. He was being held Friday in the Columbia County Detention Center without bond, according to jail records.

Just asking....I know of a case in CC where a black guy got pulled over. Even though he had marijuana and a gun in the car, the case was thrown out. Why? Because the cops reason for pulling him over was "suspected car jacking". Judge didn't go for it. Judge said there was NO reason to pull guy over without probable cause. Sitting in a parking lot is suspicious ay???

Someone robbing Wal Mart on Bobby Jones alone......yea sure.

As far as the race card comment, lol...you can't even ask a race themed questions anymore. lol.

Ilove, I think the question

Ilove, I think the question was legitimate, as DWB does still happen from what I see. I've never, ever, seen the cops going through a white person's car on the interstates while I travel, and I've covered a LOT of miles with my job for 30 years. It really did not dawn on me until a few months ago when, in a matter of 3 weeks I saw three different cars getting tossed; all with well dressed, well groomed black people standing around watching. One of the three was a nice looking middle aged lady. That was when I started searching the memory banks trying to remember, and I didn't rcall any "white" cars getting tossed. I suppose they could have been digging stuff out of the back trying to get a spare out to help her, but I didn't see a flat tire, and that wouldn't require 3 police cars.
