Columbia County authorities have left the scene of a reported domestic dispute in Appling during which shots were fired, with plans to further investigate the incident.

Shortly after 5 p.m., deputies pulled up to the home in the 3000 block of Ray Owens Road following a possible scuffle between a man and his wife, sheriff’s Maj. Rick Whitaker said.

After the dispute, the man grabbed his rifle and stormed into the woods, leaving the woman inside the home, he said.

Authorities were not immediately able to provide the couple’s names or ages.

Shots were reportedly fired in the woods near the house, but officers don’t know who fired them or why.

According to family, the man was known to go hunting after an argument with his wife, Whitaker said.

There is no history of violence between the couple, he added.

The sheriff’s office special response team was called in as a precaution.

Deputies left before finding the man after determining he was not a danger to himself or others, Whitaker said.

Charges could be filed against the man after an investigation.

Deputies took the woman from the home in an armored vehicle to North Columbia Elementary School to be checked by paramedics, Whitaker said.

Probably inappropriate...but this made me laugh 'Was known to go hunting after arguement with his wife".
She must have been a force to be reckoned with if hunting at the spur of the moment is a way to relax and blow off steam. LOL

Anyway, good morning to you guys! I think if there was no name mentioned, there was nothing important to report. The Sheriff knows what he's doing!

The day will come when we can

The day will come when we can pullup a satellite pic & watch in real time what is going on in any spot in the world...Yikes.....the divorces that will cause...... I guess our "smart" government has that already....I think I remember reading that technology was in use at Ft. Gordon right now.

The technology has been in

The technology has been in use for quite a while, SB4, you just never hear about it. It's not exactly a "point and shoot" system. Programming has to take place in advance of any observation. Many problems could be solved, but with this technology, many problems are created.

Heat sensing devices are in

Heat sensing devices are in use as well. Sneaky Pete can pretty much tell anything a person is doing inside a structure. "Uncle Sugar" has lots of secrets the general public is unaware of. Us good folk don't have much to worry about, though! It would be fun to sneak a peek now and then, at certain people! Gotta run to radiation, so see you nice folks later!

I think that its insane to

I think that its insane to leave the area before they could aprehend the husband and the gun he had. Unfortunatly many individuals are killed every year here in Georgia as the result of domestic violence. About 2 months ago the Burke county sheriffs dept was called to my home after my wife of many years decided she wanted a divorce and wanted me to leave the home we lived in for 20 years. Upon ariving the deputies asked me to go outside until they could talk to her. I am a gun owner and have a georgia CCW permit. The deputies asked for my ID, I informed them that it was in my wallet in my vehicle but that I also needed to inform them that there were weapons in the vehicle. I informed the deputies where the weapons were and they immediatly secured them. After determining that all the weapons were legal and that I had a permit I was asked if i would be willing to volontarally surrender the weapons to them for a short period of time until things had cooled down. I agreed to this and further agreed to leave the property. About 1 week later I went to the Burke county sherriff's dept and all my weapons were returned to me. I have since moved to the Augusta area and am in the process of divorcing my wife. I feel that the way in which the Burke county deputies handled the situation was much safer than the way the Columbia county deputies handled their situation. This situation could have been tragic in that an individual was allowed the leave the scene with a loaded weapon. Thank God he did not return later that evening and harm the wife. Cudoos to the Burke county sheriffs dept
