The final suspect in a Tuesday afternoon manhunt near Beech Island is in police custody, according to Aiken County sheriff’s Capt. Troy Elwell.

David Bargstedt, of Aiken, was found hiding in a shed off of Sandbar Ferry Road around 11:30 a.m. He will join his accomplice, 30-year-old Patrick Spires, at the Aiken County Detention Center.

Aiken County authorities first located the men in Beech Island in a tractor-trailer stolen from Augusta.

During a chase by the K-9 squad through the woods, the suspects stabbed one of the bloodhounds in the neck and removed his tracking collar, police say.

Spires was located by authorities Tuesday afternoon in a barn on Beech Island Avenue. Elwell said an officer was injured when the barn floor gave way during a struggle with the suspect. The officer has been treated for a wrist wound and the K-9 received three staples for his wound.

Both suspects have been charged with assault on a police K-9 and possession of a stolen vehicle. Spires has also been charged with assault on a police officer and second degree burglary.
