North Augusta police are searching for a woman who gave authorities her neighbor’s name after she was found injecting drugs in a gas station in October.

Authorities were called to Greg’s Gas Plus in the 500 block of East Martintown Road about 10:30 p.m. Oct. 19 where they found a man and woman in their respective restrooms, along with needles in the trash can and a belt used for a tourniquet.

The couple admitted to melting a prescription painkiller and injecting it.

The woman identified herself to authorities as Jackie Hinkle. It was later brought to the authorities’ attention that the woman in the restroom was Ashley Marie Ivey, a neighbor of Hinkle.

Warrants have been obtained for Ivey on charges of giving false information and public drunkenness.

The male suspect, identified as Anthony Dove, 26, of the 1800 block of Hollis Avenue, was charged with public drunkenness.

catch 22 its not illegal to consume dope or be under the influence of dope (as long as you are not driving) only possession is illegal....this is why they got public drunk instead of a drug charge...

Sorry, NissanGuy, you are off

Sorry, NissanGuy, you are off base on this one.

If they arrested and waited for positive ID for everyone cited for public drunkeness, that's what they would be doing all day, every day.

As for "running the prints", there are millions of Americans whose prints are not on file.

In the scope of things, PD is in the same catagory as jaywalking. And it is treated the same.

NAPS wasn't going to waste

NAPS wasn't going to waste time and resources on them for such a minor charge, they know that all the druggies will get into future trouble and they'll see them again.

As in this arrest, 6 days later-

Sad. Another life ruined by drugs, and then there are those idiots that think that all drugs should be legalized. This is a perfect example of why they shouldn't.

I'm really more concerned

I'm really more concerned about the seven chickens that were stole from an Augusta home.

Neither I nor anyone else I

Neither I nor anyone else I know thinks that all drugs should be legalized. Of course, I don't usually keep company with people that make sweeping generalizations or call other people names either. I also think that those arrested or written up should have be properly identified to protect everyone involved, such as witnesses, the arresting officer, victims and also to help with the case against the perp. Why in the world would an arresting officer not ask for proper identification? And if officers find out someone is lying about their name and personal information, why do some people get a pass about it, especially when it happens more than once?

I suppose if you've never had

I suppose if you've never had your identity stolen, this might not seem important to you.

There is merit to allowing

There is merit to allowing people to purchase and use whatever drug they want, as long as they are regulated, taxed, and purity guaranteed. The biggest for me is taking drug dealing off the street with all of the associated crime; not mention, crippling the cartels south of the border.

The flip side is the destruction of lives and families of the addicts. But let's face it; they are using drugs anyway, along with all of the crime that comes with it, so what not try legalizing and using the profits for treatment and education? (and putting the BILLIONS spent on the war on drugs back in the pockets of you and me)

Think about it REAL hard...

Corgimom: Your first link has

Corgimom: Your first link has this info in it: "SURRENDERED BY BONDSMAN, SUPERIOR CT BENCH WARRANT, THEFT BY SHOPLIFTING-UNDER $300 MISDEMEANOR, HOLD SUBJECT DO NOT RELEASE"

Given that last note, wonder why we're seeking this woman out. Appears to me she wasn't supposed to be released...unless NA didn't bother looking in the Richmond Co. jail...

I am always very thankful

I am always very thankful when I deal with an officer of good character and work ethic that does his or her job properly. I've learned not to take it for granted that I will get one, though. I follow up on any report I have to call in to make sure that it is handled properly. Too many things can go wrong during the process for a litany of reasons. They are human beings, not robots and there is always the fatigue factor, too.
