An Augusta store clerk was held up at gunpoint early Saturday morning, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

At 5:15 a.m. deputies responded to the Circle K at 3755 Wheeler Road in reference to an armed robbery, sheriff’s Lt. Robbie Silas said.

The clerk told police that two men wearing masks entered. One of them appeared to be holding a rifle as the other jumped over the counter and grabbed cash and cigarettes.

The men fled on foot. No one was injured, and the amount of money and cigarettes is unknown, Silas said.

No designation of "west"

No designation of "west" mentioned, as in west Augusta, as they do if something happens on the south side of Augusta (newcomers must think it is an actual town or city of South Augusta, it is called that so often). Why is that?
