An assault was reported Wednesday on Lionel Street, which is near Tubman Home Road and Gordon Highway, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

The female victim told police she was walking down Lionel Street between 1:40 and 2:20 p.m. when a man approached her telling her to hand over her purse, an incident report says.

When she refused, the man grabbed the purse, then hit her on the left side of her face with an unknown object. The 22-year-old woman was taken to the hospital, where she received 10 stitches for a 2-inch cut above her eyelid.
