Road rage appeared to be the motive in the Wednesday arrest of an Evans man. Robert Joseph Perez, 39, was charged with simple battery for punching a man who was picking his son up from day care.

Perez told police that the man had cut him off in traffic, so he followed him to the Evans day care.

Perez said the man instigated the assault, but witnesses stated that the man tried to avoid Perez.

They said Perez started punching the man and threw his keys in the bushes before leaving.

Perez was released from jail Wednesday on a $1,600 bond.

Wow! I have accidentally cut someone off and I'd hate to think they would follow me and then punch me for it! What if it was an honest mistake?!

ashleyn1. They will do it

ashleyn1. They will do it for sure. It happened to me in Evans about a year ago.

The woman was screaming, yelling, flipping me off, flashing her lights, blowing her horn, tailgating me and acting like she was going to hit me on purpose.

She followed me to the bank I was headed to - screaming & yelling the whole way. I didn't do my business at the bank but instead headed to the sheriffs office. She left at that point.

Some people are just raving lunatics.

So daphne, if someone

So daphne, if someone purposely or accidentally cuts you off in traffic, the proper conduct is to act like a raving lunatic, following them, and then assault them?

@InChristLove, with you! The beloved (only by her family) daphne has never made a mistake in traffic!!! And guess what? If you hit someone when you make a mistake they call it an "accident." We all need to act a "little older and wiser" when someone makes the dreaded "cut off" error!!!!

Unpublished

Had a little road rage directed my way this morning. On the back of the rager's vehicle was "quit your crying." I wonder if he has looked at the back of his vehicle recently. Maybe he should practice what he was preaching.

I know I hate being tail

I know I hate being tail gated so try very hard not to do it. Too many people have guns in their vehicles and I try not to drive like a MORON. However, if someone climbs up my behind flying and won't backoff...I do just slow down a few mph....and I have been known to almost stop if they won't go around. If they stop and get stupid, then you know they weren't in such a big hurry afterall....they're just mean. Our world is way to angry and hurtful. Slow down and enjoy life and quit working so hard for an early death.

There ought to be a mandatory

There ought to be a mandatory one year license suspension for those who perpetrate road rage incidents. Yell at me all you want while you're walking to work.

Sure, there are some bonehead drivers out there, but it isn't your duty to mete out justice. We pay the police to do that.

Also, if I'm doing the speed limit, you have no right to crowd me or tailgate. Unless you're driving a vehicle with activated emergency lights (fire, police, EMT) your business on the public roads is no more important than mine.

I drive a company truck with my employer's name on the doors... I have to be a "nice" driver ALL of the time.

No there are no excuses for

No there are no excuses for tailgating, but if drivers would adhere to ALL of the road rules, such as "slower traffic keep right" (notice the signs don't say "slower than speed limit") There would be fewer impatient drivers wanting to get around. Just as it police's duty to mete out justice to the bonehead "ragers", it isn't anyone else's duty slow down or otherwise impede traffic flow.

Get licensed, buy a weapon,

Get licensed, buy a weapon, get trained, and carry your weapon. Even if you never have to use it, the psychological effect of a gun barrel pointing at an attacker, is life altering. Most punks do not expect people to protect themselves. This method of shock and awe will make them think twice about approaching someone they don't know.

Road rage, huh? Make him pick up trash along the road for 6 months and that might cool him down a tad. Oh yeah, put him in one of those neat orange jumpsuits!!

I have before related how an individual cut ME off at the mall entrance, followed me to my parking, then pulled out a flea market samurai sword. Had it not been for a girlfriend/fiancee/wife who wanted him around, though I cannot conceive of why, he would have discovered the massive folly of entering a gunfight armed only with a knife.

I think I saw this before the fight. If it's what I saw, the other guy ran a red light, drove on the wrong side of the road, AND almost hit me and two other cars. And he did all this on his way to pick up his son??

To Sargebaby your comment is so far from the truth...you think your license is the only thing that's gonna protect you...Get real!! To me, If I get you sooo upset that you'll wanna draw your weapon on me, just to scare me...uhhhh it won't work. And you and I know it depends on who you want to draw your weapon on...

Haha, I've never gotten the impression of Sargebaby that he would pull one without the ability to use it. I think he's just saying with most of these nuts it doesn't come to that. Most of the fit-pitchers are all drama and would probably have to run change their britches if they even saw one, but I definitely think anyone who pulls one must be prepared to use it.

Anyone that gets this angry

Anyone that gets this angry over being "cut off" in traffic has a couple of loose nuts rolling around his pea sized brain.
I don't have a gun and i don't want one BUT if this freak tried to pull his little drama act on me I would have broken the arm attached to the punch he threw. No doubt in my mind whatsoever.
If he had pulled a gun on me I would have been forced to kill him. I'm sorry but thats just what would have happened.
You see my natural reflexes would have kicked in and I would have acted purely on instinct.
One more thing though. If you actually believe I'm that much of a BAD mutha you're as crazy as Mr. Road Rage.
I would have definitely called the police and pressed every charge against him that I could. That is unless I had gotten lucky and knocked him out or something but the odds of that happening are probably 1,000 to one.
Y'all have a great Friday night and if you have to go out then make sure you don't cut anyone off. You might do it to the Road Rage guy as he's heading home from jail.

There are lots of people in

There are lots of people in Columbia County lacking the proper driving skills to drive in traffic and some just don't care about others. I don't think it was appropriate behavior. But, sometimes you have to make a point. Maybe, some mandatory driving classes for those who tailgate and those that don't understand they should be in the right lane.

busy bodi, "get licensed, buy

busy bodi, "get licensed, buy a weapon, GET TRAINED, and carry your weapon."

BB, the training part is where you learn when, where, how, and why, to draw a weapon. So far, I've only drawn my weapon once in self defense, and did not need to shoot the perp. He got the message and made a hasty retreat.

Of course, a license does not prepare a person to draw and fire on another person. There again is where the training comes in. In my defense, I carry a weapon. I'm licensed, trained, and with over 26 years in the Army and Navy, combat for two years, and 55 years of gun handling experience in total, I believe I'm qualified to manage mine, and my families defense. You should be as well prepared, should the need arise!
