Bond denied for man charged in fatal shooting at Club 5150

  • Follow Crime & courts

Bond was denied Friday for a man linked to a shooting outside an Augusta night club that killed a 26-year-old bystander.

The shooting stemmed from a fight earlier the night of Sept. 15 at Club 5150 on the 2800 block of Deans Bridge Road. One half of the group fighting left but returned about 1:30 a.m., and shots were fired from a car window at a group of people standing outside the club’sdoor.

One of the bullets went through the club’s door and hit Ashley Brown in the head.

“She never knew what hit her,” Assistant District Attorney John O’Neal said. O’Neal named Dachavous Murphy, 19 – who is charged with murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and making false statements in a government matter – as the shooter.

“Obviously he is a significant threat if he likes to shoot guns into a crowd,” O’Neal said.

The car reportedly belonged to Murphy’s co-defendant, Robert Wright, who is charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Wright was also scheduled for a bond hearing Friday, but that was moved to a later date because his attorney was not present.

If he is guilty, this person

If he is guilty, this person never see the light of day as a free man. His reckless regards for life cannot be down played. Because of his actions, an innocent person is dead and friends and the family are grieving. It is time to stop playing games with these lowlifes. If we have to build more prisons or order more caskets for them.

I don't know what has happened to the youth. Where and why are they carrying guns around like this anyway?

Maybe listening to that noise

Maybe listening to that noise some people call music that glorifies guns and gangs. I was pumping gas the other day and was forced to endure, as all the other customers, the familiar bass thump accompanied by the filthy lyrics that some young people call entertainment.I guess its a cultural thing.I think its a safe bet young Dachavous M. maybe was listening to just such talent the night Ashley Brown was killed. Not that the noise alone is responsible for the crime but it seems to be a part of the culture of drive bys and gun crimes in most cases.

I don't think the music alone

I don't think the music alone is the problem d.jennings....the problem is lack of respect for human life, lack of respect for others, a non-chalant attitude about mischief and crime, and an overabundance of drugs and weapons on the street - combined with more criminals than law-abiding citizens.

Why are so many young blacks

Why are so many young blacks turning out like this? Where have their parents been? This didn't happen over night. It seems like 20 percent of the population is responsible for 80 percent of crimes like this. Not to mention ruining the life of the victim and their own, they are costing the taxpayers millions of dollars in every city. The public school system better get back to firm discipline early on with the blessings of the legal system, as well as the parents.

I hear you sand gnat. I agree

I hear you sand gnat.
I agree with David J. too except David I wouldn't go so far as to call it music. It's just a bunch of negative garbage that glorifies violent crime. Look how some of these "Rappers" have even met with a violent death or end up going to prison themselves.
This guy is 19 with his whole life ahead of him. Looks like the only thing he has to look forward to now is the exercise yard.
Don't worry Brad when he gets to the big house I'm sure they'll feed him lean.

sand gnat... You are

sand gnat... You are absolutely right. This didn't happen overnight. When crime, drugs, and violence are 'allowed' to exist it becomes an accepted behavior. Kids growing up in these unchecked environments adapt to it and it becomes a way of life. It's probably too late for schools to go back to firm discipline. And the firm discipline needs to start at home, then the schools wouldn't have such problems. Our society has moved away from discipline and moved towards giving youth too many 'choices'.

Well....it would seem that Dachavous Murphy is trying to establish himself as a serial killer...another prime candidate for the 3 drug cocktail at the Jackson Diagnostic Center.

In about a years time he has selfishly taken two innocent lives. Let's see what kind of deal the courts give him now.

patty-p to answer your question...it is a culture steeped in violence, self degredation, and self destruction fueled by those who care little about the black community only looking to perpetuate their own power and influence and to keep the collection plates full each sunday. where are the marches, the "HOODIES" and the bus loads of students from paine college marching with signs demanding black civil rights leaders (who are so quick to yell "racism/racist" yet are strangely silent now), parents of these thugs, pastors from the pulpit do something to stem the tide of lawlessness, unwed births, violence, drugs, crime, and lack of education that is sinking the black race into a permanent underclass while at the same time destroying it from the inside out.
