North Augusta mom arrested after police altercation

NORTH AUGUSTA — Police say an argument turned physical Monday morning when a woman hit her husband with an umbrella and a tennis racket.

The fight broke out about 6 a.m. on the 300 block of Mill Branch Way, but a responding officer said he saw no injuries to the victim.

Two hours later, a neighbor called to report that the suspect, Cherry Stratton, 43, was standing behind her husband’s car with their 2-year-old son, preventing him from leaving the driveway, a North Augusta Public Safety report states.

A report says she acted like she was going to throw the child in front of a passing car. Officers said they struggled to put Stratton in handcuffs and that she kicked an officer in the chest as they arrested her on charges of criminal domestic violence and disobeying a lawful order.

"I would say she was

"I would say she was mad"

Yea, mad as a hatter. This guy needs to get himself and that child disconnected from this nut before she kills him.

Vito, If the part about the

Vito, If the part about the child is true, that is really bad. About the only thing I know that would make a woman resort to beating her husband with an umbrella and tennis racket is cheating. With the neighbor perhaps? Can't wait to hear her side of the story. Just ask Elan, she should have used a nine iron:)

How do you know that what the

How do you know that what the report said was true? Sometimes witnesses (not necessarily in this case) make false statements (i.e., things not being what they seem or flat out lies) especially if the witnesses have a personal agenda. Don't believe everything you read. We have a court system to sort out fact from fiction. Sometimes that is successful; sometimes it isn't. I suppose it would be nice if we could rush to judgment based on one newspaper article, but then, why would we need a court system if that brought justice in every case?

This is the age of chivalry. Women can abuse their mates. We all "know" men are always at fault.

She was probably using the umbrella and tennis racket to get him out of the car after he backed into a fire hydrant and neighbor's tree.

One thing to have an argument

One thing to have an argument but totally another to put the child in danger. Maybe some anger management classes would help.
