Augusta woman robbed after being asked to give ride

An Augusta woman who received a text to go pick up a friend Wednesday afternoon was instead robbed by another man at the house, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

Javonna Kent, 24, said she received a text from an unknown number from someone claiming to be her friend “Little Willie” asking her to give him a ride to the store. When she got to the address in the 4700 block of Laurel Oak Drive, another man was sitting on the porch. He told her Little Willie would be right out and walked over to the passenger side of her 2002 Mitsubishi Galant, a report says.

As he got in the car, however, he pulled out a black revolver, pointed it at her face and demanded her money and her purse. The man grabbed her LG cell phone off her lap and took $40 out of her pocket. She then heard the gun click as he apparently pulled the trigger. As he turned to get out of the car, she pulled out her own 9 mm pistol and began firing back. The man ran behind the house and she drove home and called police, according to the report.

The responding officer did notice some damage to a nearby home on Laurel Oak Drive. The report does not say whether Little Willie ever turned up.
