Stolen bronze statue returned to Surrey Center

The 5-foot tall bronze statue of a woman was removed from a fountain in the shopping plaza off of Highland Avenue on Sept. 11. A man returned the statue to Surrey Center last week claiming he discovered it in a ditch off Berckmans Road.

A missing Surrey Center statue has been returned, Richmond County Investigator Kendall Brown said.

The 5-foot tall bronze statue of a woman was removed from a fountain in the shopping plaza off Highland Avenue on Sept. 11.

Brown said an unknown man returned the statue to the shopping center last week after claiming he discovered it in a ditch off Berckmans Road.

Authorities do not have reason to believe the man who returned the statue is a suspect.

The statue was undamaged.
