A judge denied bond to a man accused of violent attacks in three counties.

Superior Court Judge Bernard J. Mulherin Sr. refused to permit a bond for Michael Claude Maxwell, 46, of Ray Owens Road in Appling, at a hearing Friday.

Maxwell is accused in attacks and abductions attempts on three women in Richmond, Columbia and Edgefield counties on the night of July 23.

“This case, this is absolutely one of the most egregious cases that I have ever had,” Assistant District Attorney Natalie Paine said.

Maxwell is charged in Columbia County with aggravated assault and kidnapping in the attack of an Evans woman in her driveway. He followed the 31-year-old to her Blair Street home, blocked her in with his truck and attacked her.

The woman, who sustained numerous injuries in the attack, said Maxwell tried to force her into his truck, beat her and threatened to shoot her for screaming. She eventually got away and locked herself inside her car. Maxwell left when a neighbor came outside.

Less than an hour earlier, police believe Maxwell attacked a woman in the Augusta Mall parking lot. She, too, fought back and got away.

Police then believe Maxwell left Columbia County for Edgefield County, where he broke into a home, cut the power and beat a man unconscious before kidnapping the man’s wife. She escaped in Aiken County.

Mulherin said he denied bond because Maxwell is a threat to the community, a threat to commit another felony and a threat to flee the area.

“To be honest, I don’t know how he is still allowed to remain outside of a jail,” Paine said.

Maxwell’s history includes six felony convictions for burglaries, thefts and other charges. In addition to Columbia County charges, Maxwell faces charges of kidnapping in Richmond County. In Edgefield County, he faces charges of burglary, attempted murder, kidnapping and attempted sexual assault.

This type of person needs to

This type of person needs to be put down at the vets office. Maybe not there because a sick animal deserves more respect than this person. Take him to Jackson Georgia.
