Two house fires broke out within a half mile of each another Wednesday morning in south Augusta. Both are believed to be arsons, according to the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.

The Richmond County Fire Department responded to a blaze at 2399 Travis Pines Drive at about 2:45 a.m.

Fire Capt. Jack Milton said firefighters found the rear door of the residence open, and he believed the fire had been intentionally set using and unknown accelerant, the report says. Deputies saw graffiti painted on the rear of the burned home.

At 4:47 a.m., firefighters battled a second blaze at 2337 Travis Pines Drive.

Milton again said he believed the fire had been intentionally set by igniting a couch inside the home, according to a sheriff's office report.
