A 15-year-old boy has been arrested after a 27-year-old man was shot Thursday afternoon in Hephzibah, according to the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies responded to a home in the 2300 block of Georgia Highway 88 about 5:10 p.m. Officers found William Jerome Crawford with a gunshot wound in the back. He was taken to Medical College of Georgia Hospital, where he had surgery.

Investigators charged the teen with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. He was taken to the Regional Youth Detention Center. The sheriff's office is withholding his name because of his age.

Sallysue, how will knowing

Sallysue, how will knowing his name change anything? But, to answer your question, the boy is 15 and therefore at this time, his name may not legally be disiminated to the media simply due to an arrest.

well said Asit... Sally,

well said Asit... Sally, please remember that simply because the 15 year old person was arrested does NOT MEAN he is guilty... think of all the COPS shows on TV. Don't they all start with "...all subjects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law." Sally, you are adding to the "mob mentality" by agreeing that he is guilty because the reporting suggests that he is. He may be guilty, but until a legally appointed jury says so, or he admits his crime... he must be thought of as innocent.

The 15 year old charged &

The 15 year old charged & person shot are related. I know them both personally, as the accused is my little brother and the wounded is my brother in law. Details are not known at this time however I do appriciate your comment Saint333. ATTN@Sallysue- A juvenile's name can not be made public by newspapers or any kind of news unless he or she has committed one of the 7 deadly sins- one including murder *which is not the case here, my brother and brother in law had a good relationship other than little spats over a video game or something. Nobody knows the details but please keep the entire family in your prayers and thankyou!

If aggravated assault is not

If aggravated assault is not one of "The Seven Deadly Sins," it should be one of "The Eight Deadly Sins."

About 30,000 deaths to guns

About 30,000 deaths to guns each year in the USA, and gun awareness instruction isn't required in schools? There are a few schools in the US leading on this, and the NRA and anti-gun activists both support it in some fashion. May be a good thing to consider.

Desertcat, you might have

Desertcat, you might have something here...
It might be a good idea, sometime in each school year, for an ex-con who has served a sentence for murder, or even someone who is currently "in"; someone young, to give a talk at school assemblies on how their lack of judgement in one fleeting few seconds has negatively impacted their life, and other people's lives around them. Also get the corroner to tell what happens to a body, and a victums family to tell how their lives have been impacted.
Something's gotta change, and "we" ain't doing something right...

"A 15 year old with a gun..Is

"A 15 year old with a gun..Is there no end?" Please tell me you're being sarcastic. I'm 49 years old. When I was 15 nearly every kid had their own guns, or at least their family mermbers did. But here's the difference...we didn't go around killing people. Different culture I guess.

Tammy Dinh said the suspect

Tammy Dinh said the suspect was her younger brother and the victim was her boyfriend. Dinh's older son, then 14-year-old Johnny Thai Dinh, shot and killed 20-year-old Rodney Wayne McGhee, Jr. It happened on the 1500 block of Keron Way in Hephzibah.

In March 2009, Johnny Dinh pleaded guilty and was sentenced to seven years in prison and thirteen years probation. Go to WRDW for the story.

I have weapons but never

I have weapons but never would I pull one out unless my wife's life or my life were being threatned. As oldfella says "different culture". That is so true in certain secitions of our society and what a shame people take that attitude. I guess they just want to stay the same and not better themselves. My attitude has always go toward the best in life and not the worst because it gets you nowhere fast.

ATTN @ oldfella...the details

ATTN @ oldfella...the details of this case have not been made clear so for you to say we just didnt go around shooting ppl...your wrong! YOU HAVE NO CLUE who pulled the trigger & right now I feel your slandering my little brothers name so choose your words wisely. As far as richmond cty vtr's comment...you obviously have the story wrong as well. My nephew Johnny Dinh's case in 2006 has nothing to do with this case. The jury was deadlocked and our family was in no mental state to proceed through another trial so therefore the plea deal was offered and I thought it would be best to take it. The charges was Involentery manslaughter. My nephew was 14 and the deceased was 22. It was a sad time for both families but my nephew- Johnny Dinh simply defended hisself...how that has anything to do with this case going on now is beyond me. I do know proper actions will be taken if these allegations and discriminating remarks are not corrected. THANKS VERY MUCH!

I'm sure more details will be

I'm sure more details will be released and WRDW does have a little more detail on their site. It said the victim was making the 15 year old sit down to do his homework. He must have been babysitting.

I pray that the victim recovers. I'm just trying to figure out where and how these kids are getting guns in the first place.

Solving problems through

Solving problems through violence doesn't work. Everyone loses. Unfortunately, a growing portion of America's youth glamorizes violence and sees it as a convenient way to solve problems. "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it" Proverbs 22:6.

If they both were defending
Unpublished

If they both were defending themselves, it seems they are put in situations they feel they need to do that, or they are just little thugs. I don't know many families that have multiple kids trying to kill people either, so old fellows comment isn't really slander, its an observation.
